A brief background on Stephanie Plum. Stephanie is a woman from Jersey that find herself in desperate need of a job. Luckily, or unluckily, her cousin is hiring. The catch, he is a bail bondsman. That means that Stephanie would be a bounty hunter. After weighing the pros and cons of being a bounty hunter or being broke, hungry, and having to move back in with her parents, Stephanie takes the job.
Top Secret Twenty-One begins with Stephanie looking for Jimmy Poletti. Jimmy is a man who is facing human trafficking charges and is well known in the burg. Jimmy's known associates are turning up dead. Stephanie is running out of people to talk to who know Jimmy and is worried about her own safety. She keeps reminding herself that a high stakes case comes with a high bounty. Much to her dismay, Stephanie's best bet to finding Jimmy is to work with one of her least favorite people, Randy Briggs. Based on past encounters, Stephanie and Randy have a mutual dislike for each other. Randy is Jimmy's bookkeeper and knows all of Jimmy's secrets. Randy is afraid that he will be dead soon. In fear for his life, Randy makes a deal with Stephanie. Stephanie protects him and in return, Randy agrees to be a pawn to draw Jimmy out of hiding. With no better options, Stephanie agrees to the deal. It is not long after Randy moves into Stephanie's apartment that a rocket blows up Stephanie's apartment. No one is hurt, but the events that follow are completely strange, and totally Stephanie Plum.
I highly recommend Top Secret Twenty-One. It is a good, wild story with humor. I can honestly tell you that I am looking forward the next book just to see what wild adventures await Stephanie Plum.
